Domenica Mimi Ciccone
September 10, 1931 – September 28, 2021
On September 28, 2021, at the age of 90, after a beautiful lifetime of caring for others, Domenica Mimi Ciccone passed from our world and into Heaven’s arms.
Predeceased by loving husband Rocco Ciccone and survived by her adoring, proud and unabashedly doting son John (Giovanni), (Deborah Schulde). Domenica, née Cambareri, was born in Taurianova, Reggio Calabria, Italy. At the age of 16, with no English, she made her way to a better life in Canada. From sweeping floors at the Greater Niagara General Hospital in Niagara Falls, Ontario, she worked her way up as a caregiver in pediatrics. By 1970, she had written and easily passed her exam to be a Registered Nurses Assistant.
Domenica was a natural caregiver. Though her retirement in the 1980’s from the job she “loved” was mostly due to back injury, she continued to volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels, seniors, and was there with comfort and care for family and friends particularly in their final days when they were most in need.
Memorable how unselfish her love was, and sincerely delighted to see happiness in others, her family of sisters, brother, in-laws and many nieces and nephews know how important and dear they have always been to her.
Son John is moved by those who remember more than 50 years later how caring and kind Mimi was during their nervous hospital stay in Children’s Ward. (And by so many who can’t seem to forget her delicious Italian cooking.) She always felt blessed with wonderful neighbours who know her love and affection for them.
Talented seamstress making her own clothes and uniforms, and green-thumb gardener who, on a fun dare, grew a large tree from a walnut. Coffee can to backyard.
Though proud to be a lady, Domenica was strong and independent. She loved to laugh, learn and wasn’t afraid to get a driver’s license, save to buy her own car, or send emoji-filled messages from her iPad in her 80’s.
Already missed by so many, her son John wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and heartfelt condolences.
Rest in the grace of Jesus whom you loved and admired so much.
