Dmytro’s Obituary
It is with great sadness the family of the late Dmytro Dzaman announce his passing at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on February 27, 2021, at the age of 79 years.
Dmytro (Metro) Dzaman was born November 29, 1941, on the family farm in the Danbury district to Mary (Burym) and Mike Dzaman. The family moved to a farm near Ethelbert, Manitoba, where Metro attended Boyan School until grade eight.
He and his siblings enjoyed the adventurous life of living along a river, spending their time hiking, fishing and trapping.
Mike and Mary moved their family to Winnipeg in 1957. Metro’s first and only job in Winnipeg was at Reid and Eibner Printing, running a printing press.
In 1962, Metro met Lydia Zinchuk and they married in August 1963. They made their home in Winnipeg, welcoming children, Darlene in 1964, and Michael in 1966.
They sold their house in 1971 and moved to the farm three miles south of Hyas, where they farmed with Lydia’s parents and brother.
In 1972, their third child, Korinna, was born.
Along with grain farming, Metro began driving school bus in the area in 1971 and continued to drive for over 35 years.
Recognizing the need in the community, Metro volunteered for the Home and School Association, Hyas Recreation Board, the local Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, and as a hockey coach. He was also a long-standing member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Hyas Golden Age Centre. Additionally, he was the caretaker for the Skating Rink for a few years. Metro also took pride in his woodworking, making many gifts for himself, family, and friends.
He enjoyed curling, hunting, fishing, traveling, snowmobiling, quadding, playing cards and anything that involved socializing with family and friends.
Metro is predeceased by his parents, Mike and Mary Dzaman; sister, Iris Swantko; brothers-in-law, Bill Swantko and John Pankewycz; parents-in-law, Harry and Mary Zinchuk, sister-in-law, Marlene Gazdewich, and grandson, Matthew Fullawka.
He leaves to mourn his wife of over 57 years, Lydia; daughter, Darlene (Wayne) and their children: Nathen, Tim (Kayla) Jaden, Adalyn and Miles; Rochelle (Garrett); son, Michael (Laurie) and their children, Taylor and Shelby; and his daughter, Korinna (Rob) and their children: Christopher (Ashley), Nicklaus, Kennedy (David), Wesley and Reilly; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Friends and family so wishing, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
In Metro’s honour, a Public Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK. A Private Family Funeral Service will be held and livestreamed at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2021, with Rev. Fr. Petro Tsenov officiating. Interment will follow at the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to a Charity of Donor’s Choice, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Metro Dzaman.
