In Celebration of
Dionyssios Papagiannakis
November 26, 1925 –
December 23, 2021
Dionyssios Papagiannakis passed away on 23 December 2021 at the age of 96. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his amazing resilience, courage, and love for life. He passed away peacefully knowing he was dearly loved by his family and all who knew him.
Dionyssios was born in a small, remote village of Epanochori in Chania, Crete. His first love was the Madares of the Lefka Ori where he spent the first 43 years of his life helping support his family as a farmer. His love for the mountains was surpassed by the love he had for his wife of 53 years, Eugenia Chountalos. Together, they left his beloved Crete to set down new roots in Montreal where he worked hard to raise his family. His pride and joy were his children Sofia (Shan) and Antonio. The highlight of his later years were his cherished grandsons Jordan and Nathan.
A special thank you to his nieces and nephews in Canada and Greece who have continuously showed their love and support throughout the years.
Dionyssios requested that in lieu of flowers, family and friends donate to the Cedar Cancer Center or Montreal Children’s Hospital.
Due to covid restrictions, the church service will be by invitation only.
The burial is open to all willing to brave the weather on Wednesday, 29th December at noon. Masks are mandatory and social distancing must be respected.
