Kirkland, Diane Mary (nee Clark)
Diane passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Campbellford Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, after suffering a stroke one week prior. Diane was the beloved wife of Ronald Kirkland, and precious mother of Malinda (Don) Towns, Stephen Kirkland, Faith-Ann (Wes) Bartley, Kenneth Kirkland, Andrea Kirkland, Glenna (Dan) Gordon, and Rhonda (Wes) Gorham. She was the loving grandmother of 24, and great-grandmother of 16, with 2 more on the way. She was beloved baby sister of Ruth Wright, and predeceased by her parents, Charles Raymond Clark and Beatrice Clark (nee Gale), her brother Allan Clark, and her sister Edna Hawkins.
Diane was born in Oshawa, Ontario on May 28, 1943. She often shared fond memories of her childhood home on Frances Street and her best friend, Bonnie. She attended school at Oshawa Central P. S. (Centre Street School), which was later re-named E.A. Lovell School. After attending an Oshawa business college, she worked at Henderson’s Book Store in downtown Oshawa. She married Ron on Oct 13, 1962, and was a loyal and loving wife for over 58 years. She enjoyed traveling with Ron and their friends, on some special trips with her daughters, and most recently enjoyed a bus trip with her sisters to Pennsylvania. Diane would say that her proudest accomplishments are her children whom she loved and cared for dearly.
Diane was kindness personified – a gentle and loyal soul. She always put others ahead of herself in every thought and action. She was the quintessential peacemaker. This Bible verse so accurately reflects her life: “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God, for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Eph.4:32
She is missed already by those who were blessed to have known her.
Donations may be made in memory of Diane to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Diabetes Association. A private family graveside service will be held in the coming weeks.
