Dwight R.J. Denton has made his final curtain call. He passed away peacefully on Monday March 22 while in hospice at Rivercrest.
Dwight leaves behind son Dominic, Dominic’s wife Anita, grandson Caleb and former daughter-in-law Allason (Ford), who has been very supportive in the past few months. Dwight was predeceased by his parents and wife Charalene who passed in October 2019.
Son, father, husband, comedian, director, mentor and friend. No matter which hat he wore, Dwight always gave it his all.
Easily remembered for his energy and infectious smile, his ability to bring out the best in the lives of those he touched was one of his amazing talents that he was always so modest about. He helped all of us to believe in ourselves.
Born in Biggar Saskatchewan, he had been a councillor in the Northern Territories (think Inuvik), a wrestling promoter, an insurance underwriter, a writer of plays (he wrote the stage adaptation of CNTL-ALT-DEL for Saffron, a play about cyberbullying that was performed at the Dow Centennial Centre, Shell theatre and later turned into a movie for the Alberta Government that is still shown to this day), a performer at the Fringe in Edmonton, a regular performer/host with Slixer Entertainment out of Vancouver. Dwight was also responsible for bringing film projects to the Fort Saskatchewan area (Cat’s Cradle – shot in a number of local places, The Big Lebowski 2). He had also been a drummer in a couple of rock n’ roll bands in Saskatchewan. Also a talented actor having appeared in a number of commercials.
Active in the local group the Sheeptown Players having directed a number of their plays and mentored a few of their directors and been a supporter of the Leduc Theatre Company.
Dwight was honoured in 2019 with a seat named in his honour in the Shell Theatre by the Sheeptown Players for his many contributions to the group.
Dwight will be greatly missed by all those who knew him and whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation or the local community theatre group The Sheeptown Players.
