Obituary of Dennis Abblitt
Born March 17, 1941 in Cambridgeshire UK to Grace and Thomas Abblitt, Dennis passed away at age 80 on June 25, 2021 at his home in Willow Grove NB surrounded by family and friends.
His early life was spent in rural England, where his family farmed for many generations. Rather than follow family tradition, Dennis chose to study Philosophy, Law and Library Sciences. In 1967 he moved to Canada and embarked on a lifelong career as Librarian at UNBSJ, where he was particularly proud of his involvement in the creation of one of North America’s best Science Fiction collections.
In 1968 Dennis was joined in Canada by Kate (nee Whitehead). The two married and went on to have two children, Rebecca and Simon. The family enjoyed 30 years of living in Rothesay before moving to Willow Grove. In his retirement Dennis continued to be an avid reader, lover of fine wines, good food, single malt scotch, jazz and travel. He was also a collector of trivia, and always joked that when he died the world would lose an encyclopedia of useless knowledge.
In addition to his wife, children and daughter-in law Jaime (nee Kyrzakos), Dennis is survived by brothers Tom & Keith and sister Marilyn, all of Ramsey England, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). At his request there will be no funeral, but a celebration of life will be held later this year. Expressions of condolence may be sent to BrenansFH.com. Donations in Dennis’ memory may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dennis
