Deneau, Christopher Lee
“I’m gonna write my own song
When the ending ain’t so sad
Write my own song, when a
Smile was all I had.”
Christopher Lee Deneau died at the age of 49 on November 11, 2021. Chris was many things: lifelong partner and closest companion to Heidi for over 30 years, father to Caleb and Kennedy, friend to so many, uncle, son, brother. A born athlete with innate musical talent and a beautiful voice he was equally at home on a skateboard, playing the guitar, riding the Yamadoodle as though it was a part of him, or writing a song. He worked hard and with integrity and it showed. His stone work was beautiful and built to last, and he lived by his motto, “Deneaus never lie”.
Life was not always easy for Chris. His parents died when he was a child, and he had to make his own way. Perhaps this is where his compassion came from, his ability to see those who were left unseen, and to make the people he encountered feel special. When Chris loved you, he loved you. His stories could make you laugh until your belly hurt, and he never forgot how to play.
The end for Chris came far too soon. Life got harder and he lost his way for awhile. But even then, as death came nearer he turned to song and wrote those words above, “I’m gonna write my own song, when the ending ain’t so sad, write my own song, when a smile was all I had”. Chris and his most beautiful smile will be deeply missed.
