Delhart Oris Arlen Smith
Delhart Oris Arlen Smith, born February 12, 1939, passed away after a long battle with dementia at the age of 82 on December 1, 2021 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. He is mourned by his loving wife, Faye; sons, Doug (Irene) and Darryl (Nikki); daughter, Joanne Smith (Jeff Nielsen); granddaughters, Andrea, Emily, and Katherine, and his great-granddaughter, Naomi. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Gerda Smith; his sister, Darlene, as well as Darlene’s twin baby brother, Darrel.
Delhart was born in Wetaskiwin and went to school at Harvest Home for the first eight years and finished school in Gwynne. He moved to Edmonton for work where he met his wife, Faye, playing cards. He started bowling and loved bowling since his retirement. They were married in Edmonton, living there for four years and starting their family with two boys.
The family moved to Elk Point in 1965 on a mixed farm which grew over the years. In 1969 Del started work at the Windsor Salt Company in Lindbergh, and welcomed their daughter in the same year. He worked for the company and became a journeyman mechanic. He retired from the plant after 31 years. When they sold the farm in 2014 to move back to Wetaskiwin, they had only Black Angus cattle, which Del loved.
Del was an avid hockey fan who began coaching minor leagues for the two boys and also played in the Old Timers hockey league. A skilled handyman, Del loved working on cars and tractors, and spent many hours refurbishing and fixing anything he could get his hands on in his shop. Del enjoyed spending his mornings chatting with friends over coffee.
There will be no service at this time, and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
