Obituary
Deborah “Debi” Lee Gaspari was born in Hampden County, MA on July 17, 1958 and passed away in Nanaimo, BC on May 24, 2021. Debi was an East Coast / West Coast girl who originated from Massachusetts and settled in British Columbia in the 1970’s. Both places were her home, due to the people she loved, who loved her as well.
Debi always welcomed people into her home and made them feel comfortable. Debi showed her love by sharing her affection and pride in all of her family and friends’ accomplishments.
Debi is predeceased by her son Jeremy Gaspari in May, 2020; mother Joan (nee Potter) Flahive in September, 2006; aunt Jean Potter in August, 2008; brother Stephen McCarthy in December, 2002; and step father Terrence Flahive in January, 2014.
Those mourning her loss are siblings Sue McCarthy, Larry McCarthy, and David Flahive of Chicopee, MA, as well as Ted Flahive of South Hadley, MA; daughters Melissa (Cory) Johnson of Nanaimo, BC, and Desiree Gaspari of Edmonton, AB; grandson Brodie Johnson of Nanaimo, BC; and niece Nicole Wright and nephew Justin Ryan of Chicopee, MA.
In lieu of flowers, Debi’s family asks that if you see something you like about someone, tell them — Even if it is the shoes they are wearing. Mom always taught us to tell people what we appreciated about them. You never know what impact that might make and how it will brighten their day.
Debi’s ashes are part of a memorial reef located in Pipers Lagoon in Nanaimo, BC, so she can rest peacefully in the ocean and still face home towards Massachusetts.
