Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a true Renaissance man. Dean Webster Lowther was taken from us at the age of 87 by the corona virus on January 19th, 2021. He was born on a farm in North Carlton, PEI on November 6th, 1933. Predeceased by his parents Hudson and Irene, sister Helen (Victoria, BC) and just recently his younger brother Garnet (Charlottetown, PEI). Survived by his loving wife Beryle, his daughters Torrie (Bob), Sharon (Mark) and son Mark (Nancy) and his four adoring grandchildren Cailin (Trevor), Jordan, Blake & Jack, step grandchildren Jan and Jessica and little great grandson Hudson, as well as, many nieces and nephews.
Dean enjoyed a wonderful childhood on the farm and regaled us with his many stories of pranks and misadventure. A favorite was skinny dipping in the pond with his dad after a hard day helping with chores. Dean had his sights set on bigger things and at 18 after graduating as an electrician, he made his way west to Ontario. After apprenticing with his beloved Uncle Dave Gardiner, he went on to build a 25-year career as a Manager with Bell Canada with frequent promotions and moves around Ontario and Quebec, closing off his career with a 3 ½ year stint in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The highlight of his life was meeting his pretty nurse Beryle in Kingston where they married in 1959 after she graduated from Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing. They enjoyed downhill skiing together and made such a handsome couple and recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Dean enjoyed many hobbies including, woodworking, amateur radio, flying radio-controlled gliders, home renovations, tennis, golf, camping and travel. Exploring Canada coast to coast and a driving trip to California with kids, trailer and dog in tow created favourite family memories. Dean and Beryle were fortunate to visit many countries in Europe as well.
He took great pride in their beautiful home that he continuously renovated top to bottom, including replacing hardwood floors at the age of 80! Dean filled the home not only with his meticulously crafted furniture, but most importantly with his love for his family which we will treasure always. In later life he developed a passion for all thing’s technology and electric cars and finally got his Tesla dream car. There was not a thing in the home that did not turn on or off without a command to Google.
He was so immensely proud of his grandchildren and passed along so much knowledge and life lessons they will never forget.
Dean never stopped learning, listening to podcasts daily, we hope he has another Tesla where he is and can drive down that country road knowing he could not have lived a better life.
We will never forget the excellent treatment he received from the caring nurses, doctors and staff at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital working tirelessly to bring comfort to patients and family members during these extraordinary times. Donations in Dean’s honour can be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dean Webster Lowther November 06 1933 January 19 2021..
