David King 2021

David’s children are very sad to announce he passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 4, 2021 in Anneheim, Saskatchewan.
He was born on April 25, 1957 to Edward and Cecile King in Meadow Lake, SK. He was the 5th child of 10 in the family. Early in life he was afflicted with poliomyelitis that impacted his hip and leg, but not his spirit. Although his mobility was challenged, he always found a way to make things work. That is just who he was. David grew up and spent the majority of his life living in Bear Creek, just outside of Meadow Lake. He was proud to be a citizen of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan, Local #31. He found a meaningful career in counselling work at various places in northern Saskatchewan throughout the 80s and 90s and eventually challenged the exam, earning an Addictions Counsellor Diploma through SIAST. David was employed for more than a decade at Mistahey Musqua Treatment Centre. Eventually he started a new chapter in his career working at the Armand Bekkattla Treatment Centre, where he worked as a counsellor and later the director before returning to counselling until he retired a few years ago. Although the work was challenging, David persevered and never lost his sense of humour or his desire to learn. He was always happy to share what he knew with his children and would frequently ask his daughters to order books for him from Amazon. He was well read in a vast assortment of health and social issues.
David was a very musical person. He played fiddle and bass in family bands over the years as well as picking up any instrument he could just for fun. Many of his nieces and nephews remember getting impromptu music lessons from David. He was always willing to share his knowledge with others. He also loved horses and enjoyed rodeo culture and old western movies. One of his favourite things to do was drive around with his kids or grandkids and just shoot the breeze.
David was predeceased by his parents Edward and Cecile King, his brother-in-law Henry Fineblanket, and his stillborn granddaughter Grace King. He is sorely missed by: his children, Christine (Kurt) King, Julie (Tyler) King, and Derek (Carley) Murray; his grandchildren, Sebastian, Edward, Jenny, Alyssa, Crosby, Benson, and Micah; His siblings, Daniel (Gwen) King, Dolores (Bryon) Ludwig, Linda King, Donalda (Richard) Opikokew, Glenda Fineblanket, Brenda (Jimmy) Norman, Dwayne (Donna) King, William (Marian) King, Mary (Billy) King Rhea as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private family service will take place by invitation only.
Thank you for the support and kind words about our Dad. It has been a comfort seeing the positive impact his humble life had on those he’d met. His absence will be felt.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Bear Creek Gymkhana Club.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of David King 2021..
