FUGARD, David Kent – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kent on Monday, November 15, 2021, at the age of 55. Loving husband to Sherry. Wonderful dad to three great kids, Daniel (Renzo), Madison (Matthieu), and Emma. Son of David and Doreen Fugard. Brother of Lisa (George) Batista. Son-in-law of Bob and Jean Bennett. Brother-in- law, uncle, nephew, friend, and co-worker to many people in places both near and far. Kent worked for Watson Bowman Acme for 34 years. The comradery of his colleagues was important to him, he enjoyed his work and was an inventor of several patents. He loved going to the cottage, being out on the water, building fires, listening to the rain on the roof, setting off fireworks, and spending time with the Wallinger family for many years. Kent enjoyed coaching soccer with PWSL, playing golf, shooting baskets, reading a good book and watching the same movies more than once. He was a good sport about watching K-dramas with subtitles, as long as snacks were provided. He never met a French fry or potato that he didn’t like. Kent attended First Grantham United Church for many years after moving to St. Catharines, a faith community under the leadership of Rev. Paul Miller, that helped him celebrate the confirmation of his son, the birth and baptism of his youngest daughter, and the journey of Rev. Sherry into ordained ministry. He later attended Pelham Community Church while his daughters participated in an awesome youth group led by Karla Morgan-Ward, in addition to also attending Southminster United in Niagara Falls. From washing dishes to climbing ladders, trimming trees, being tech support and flipping burgers on occasion – he pitched in with a smile. Though he didn’t want to leave this life so soon, he was certain of the love that he had for his children, family, and friends. He knew that God was going to keep watch over everyone, and he planned on being right there watching too with the best seat in the house. The upcoming graduation of Daniel from law school, the marriage of Madison and Matthieu, and the graduation of Emma from high school before she headed off to university were celebrations that he very much looked forward to. They provided him with strength and hope as he waded through the dark waters and treatments related to pancreatic cancer. The family is greatly appreciative of the expertise and support shared by Dr. R. Prince, Dr. K. Wassen, Shari Moura, and the larger team at Princess Margaret along with Dr. Maddison and nurse Alex of St. Catharines. The ongoing prayers and support of friends, neighbours, coaches, teachers, and others most assuredly helped to make the last few months ones in which we were able to experience many moments of joy and blessing. We give thanks to God for having placed such gracious people in our lives in this moment of time.
