David Alexander Franks 2021

FRANKS, David Alexander
Author David A. Franks has written and self-published three books: Sun of a Diabetic, a science fiction novel. ‘D’ tales volume 1 is a collection of humorous memoirs and fictional short stories. In David’s latest book, 30 Days in Attawapiskat, he chronicles his observations and impressions as a once proud, yet blissfully ignorant Canadian writer who spends a month on the fly in First Nation reserve of Attawapiskat. David also designed and built his own straw bale house, swam with Dolphins in Mexico, explored a dozen 1000-year-old Mayan ruins in Central America, celebrated one New Year in Iceland, another in Venezuela, and an Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. He’s kissed the Blarney stone in Ireland, climbed to the top of the Eifel Tower in Paris, and taken a Gondola ride in Venice. He’s been skydiving, scuba diving, white water rafting, whale watching, and clung to the roof of a car speeding through the streets of Mississauga. He’s slept at the foot of a slumbering volcano in Costa Rica, and flown in a glider over a lava spewing volcano in Hawaii. He’s driven across Canada from coast to coast, performed in three operas with the Canadian Opera Company. He’s won awards for his sculptures, taught special effects make-up artistry at the School of Make-up Art in Toronto, and had many paintings commissioned. David was diagnosed with type one Diabetes in 1963, at the age of four, and was using a chemistry set to check his blood sugars before he started kindergarten.
