Obituary
It is with shocked and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a Son, Dad, Grandfather, and Friend Darryl Hrominchuk. Darryl was born May 4, 1971 in Winnipegosis, Manitoba to Sylvia Hrominchuk and passed away July 2, 2021 in Dauphin, Manitoba at the age of 50.
He started school in Ethelbert and completed his high school in Dauphin. He played many sports growing up, like rugby and hockey. When he wasn’t playing sports or riding his dirt-bike, he was skipping class or drawing cars in his sketchbook. His love for cars was something he would later take into his young adult life, where he raced stock cars with Prairie Fire Racing all throughout the parkland area.
He was an only child, but grew up with many cousins who ended up being like siblings to him. He shared great moments with his cousins on the farm in Ethelbert and always cherished his relationships with them. Family was the most important thing to Darryl, even at his earliest years. He looked up to his Baba and Dede, all of his aunts and uncles, but the one lady who always had his whole heart, was his mom Sylvia.
It wasn’t until October of 1992 when he met Lori Delaurier, that the idea of love and family took on a whole new meaning. Lori and Darryl fell in love and married in 1994 in Ste Rose Du Lac. They went on to have four beautiful children; Kamryn (1995), Landon (1997), Tristan (2003) and Emersyn (2007). They had a comforting but wild kind of love, and even when they parted ways they never stopped being best friends, and continued to co-parent their children together.
Darryl could never sit still, which is why he had such a large variety of work experience. A “jack of all trades” and entrepreneur at heart, he went from producing newspapers, to selling vehicles and later selling insurance. He was a computer analyst with Baker Computers and West Region Tribal Council. Later on he paid tribute to his entrepreneurial mindset by helping other small businesses start up through Community Futures Parkland. He was always a community-minded person, and volunteered with the Dauphin Fire Department and the Kinsmen Club of Dauphin. He was always wanting to help out whoever he could, wherever he could. It wasn’t until 2018 he traded in his suit and tie for a hard hat and safety vest, and started working as a heavy equipment operator where he truly found his career calling. He loved operating equipment, and he loved the atmosphere of the hard workers on the pipeline.
Darryl was a gifted speaker, a smooth-talker and he could talk his way out of anything. It was always hard to get the microphone away from him once he had it, especially if there was a karaoke machine and “La Bamba” was an option on this list. These skills all worked well for him when he starred in various musicals and plays through Theatre Amisk in Dauphin. His personality was larger than life. He was a great story teller, and always had advice to give, whether it was good advice- well that was your choice to decide.
The simplest pleasures in life brought happiness to Darryl. He loved riding his motorcycle, camping and a quiet evening around the campfire with his kids. His kids were his whole world, and he was always their biggest supporter. He was a “memory-maker”, and made sure he was providing experiences for his kids. He wanted to have heartfelt moments with each of them and made sure he gave them his undivided attention throughout their lives.
Darryl is predeceased by his grandparents Metro and Mary Hrominchuk and his uncle Billy Hrominchuk.
Darryl is survived by his mother Sylvia Terry and step-father Raymond Terry, his children Kamryn Winters (Levi Winters), Landon (Kelsy Wilson), Tristan and Emersyn Hrominchuk, his grand-children Jayce and Austin Winters, and his lifelong co-parent and best friend Lori Hrominchuk, as well as numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Due to current Covid restrictions, a celebration of life will take place at a later date and be announced here.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Darryl’s memory to Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, 404 1 Ave NE, Dauphin, MB R7N 1A9.
