Daniel’s Obituary
Daniel was born and raised in Red Lake, and lived in Madsen his whole life. From the time he could walk, outdoors was his favourite place to be; biking, snow-machining, always fixing and building things, fishing, hunting, surveying and staking claims, and harvesting waffle sauce (maple syrup) ….. the list goes on.
He also loved to entertain, spending many hours in the kitchen and at the BBQ and smoker preparing amazing dishes to share with all. Daniel also had a wonderful sense of humour but had a knack for occasionally shocking us all with his twisted humour!
After completing high school, he left briefly to complete the Small Engines and Recreational Vehicles mechanic’s program at Sault College, and then returned to Red Lake to continue learning and gaining experience.
He attained his life-long dream of travelling, becoming a pilot and an operator of a fly-out fishing and hunting lodge and outposts.
The following words and sentiments of friends speak to the kind of person Daniel was.
His friend and business partner, Chris, wrote:
“Daniel lived his life the way he wanted, with no regrets. He finished his final years getting his pilot’s licence, and spreading his wings in the air and in business. He lived his life to the fullest, every day with no exceptions.
He was passionate about learning and always pushed himself. Whatever he did was never meant to be good enough for someone else, it had to be good enough for him. Hard standards to meet.
He was always there to lend a hand, and his final time was spent cutting trees to help a friend make his yard safer for his daughter. I can’t think of a better way to end our time, than helping others! It is exactly how Daniel would have wanted it. He was always the first person to offer assistance. Always. What a role model! The world needs more like him, not less.
He was never alone…. find peace my brother.”
Northern Man song lyrics co-written by Shyanne and Marianna:
“Tell a northern man by his truck and his dog,
Out in the bush in the morning fog.
Baseball and hockey and splitting mom’s wood,
Man for all seasons …lending a hand when he should.
Walking through the bush with bugs and a beer,
Others would cry but it brings him cheer.
His denim and plaid, his camo hats,
A northern man’s favourite habitat!
Hey, hey Northern Man,
Loving his life as best he can.
Woah, woah Northern Boy,
Your brothers’ best friend and mama’s joy!
Hunting and fishing, drinking rum with the boys,
Ice roads and airplanes and making some noise,
Catch em and clean em and straight in the pan,
Dinner for two …. or for the whole damn clan!
Hey, hey Northern Man,
Loving his life as best he can.
Woah, woah Northern Boy,
Your brothers’ best friend and mama’s joy!”
While Daniel was taken from us much to early in a tragic accident, as an organ donor, he lives on by giving his gifts of a healthier life to 5 people, and that provides us with much consolation.
Son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, uncle and friend. Daniel left us all to go on his last journey. He will be loved and remembered by many; he will remain in our hearts. God, grant him eternal rest.
Syn, brat, wnuk, siostrzeniec, kuzyn, wujek i przyjaciel. Daniel zostawił nas wszystkich, aby udać się w swoją ostatnią podróż.Będzie kochany i wspominany przez wielu , pozostanie w naszych sercach. Boże, daj mu wieczne spoczywanie.
Daniel is loved greatly and sadly missed by his mom (Annemarie), dad (George, grandmothers (Marisha & Oma), brothers Peter (Angela) and Eric, niece Haley and nephews Xander and Ben, aunts Liz and Helen, uncles Herb (Nora), Pete (Carol), Ernie (Donna), and Greg, cousins Wade, Ryan, Tyrun, Terry, Jenny, Justine, Joanna, and Dane, and many special friends (Devon, Kurtis & Emily, Donny, …) too many to list but they know who they are.
Daniel was an organ donor, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will follow at a later date.
Donations in his memory may be made to the McKenzie Island Gyro Club or the Thunder Bay Health Science Centre – ICU through the Red Lake Chapel, Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0
