Mr. Dale Gilbert
Dale Carnegie Gilbert of Blenheim, Ontario, passed away Sunday, January 24th, 2021. The youngest of six children, Dale was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 10, 1957. Dale was preceded in death by his father (Ed Gilbert}) and his brother (Charles Gilbert) He is survived by his mother – Skipper (Birdella Isabelle Schipper) Gilbert of Springville, AL; one brother – Richard Gilbert (wife, Sheila) of Orange Beach, AL; and three sisters: Sue Ashworth (husband, Jon Waldrop) of Springville, AL, Anne Russo (late husband, Andrew) of Columbiana, AL, and Elita Smithey (husband, Dan) of Remlap, AL. Dale was a graduate of Huffman High School in Birmingham, Alabama, and attended Jefferson State College. He was a hockey enthusiast and played hockey for several years in the Birmingham Amateur Hockey Association. Dale moved to Canada in his mid-30’s. There, as a member of the Catholic Church, Dale played his guitar and sang with a beautiful resonant voice; he particularly delighted in the fresh, new generation of music just being introduced into the worship service. Dale served in the Knights of Columbus in both the Wallaceburg and Blenheim, Ontario, Councils and was a 4th Degree. In the Blenheim Council, he held the position of Deputy Grand Knight, and then, Grand Knight. He was always passionate about performing the roles and responsibilities that came with each position. He became an integral part of several fund raisers and ongoing community charity initiatives. He was especially attentive to individuals or families experiencing sudden hardship or loss; he donated a considerable portion of his time and personal income to ease these circumstances. Dale was known by many throughout the Blenheim area for his chatty, easy going manner, charitable works, and distinct Southern accent. He will be sorely missed. Cremation has taken place.
