Dag Walter October 9 1961 March 5 2021

Dag Walter, 59, passed away on Friday March 5, 2021 in Richmond, B.C. resulting from the effects of Huntington disease, a genetic disorder that his father also suffered from.
Dag was born on October 9, 1961 in Vancouver, B.C. Many of his friends thought of him as a “Salt of the Earth” kind of guy. Honest, patient, kind-hearted and always willing to help out. He was an electrician by trade and loved to travel and spend time outdoors with his friends and relatives.
Not wanting to pass on the genetic disorder, Dag chose not to start a family of his own. He bravely faced, and did his best to hide, the progressive effects of the disease for as long as he could. When Dag turned 50, he finally agreed to be tested for Huntington disease, and in accepting the possibility of his worst fear coming true, he said, “ It’s time to make the Dragon my friend.”
As Dag’s abilities deteriorated, simple things became most important to him. The BC Huntington Society offered an annual summer camp that provided a lot of healing around living with Huntington disease, and his move to Rosewood Manor in Richmond was in his words, “The best decision ever.” He enjoyed his book club, his loyal friends and relished being a part of family gatherings. He will be missed.
Dag was preceded in death by his brother, Bernt, and his father, Karl. He is survived by his mother Mareile, and his brother, Mark.
A private celebration of life and the spreading of his ashes will be held at a later date.
