Cynthia Berezuk
Little Bras d’Or
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Cynthia Berezuk, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Bromley Kent, England, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Ida (Cooper) Young. Cynthia immigrated to Canada in 1946, following the Second World War.
She was employed for many years as a legal secretary with Gerald Murphy and later as a part of the hospitality team at Villa Madonna Retreat House in Little Bras d’Or.
Cynthia was very active in her community, volunteering her time with the Northside General Hospital canteen, the Northside Figure Skating Club as well as being a Brownie Leader. She was also a member of the Bras d’Or Seniors and Pensioners Club, TOPS Nova Scotia #757, an active member of St. Joseph Parish in Little Bras d’Or and was well known by the neighbourhood children as the “Popsicle Lady” of Rendell Drive.
Cynthia is survived by her two children, Cheryl (Colin) MacKinnon, New Glasgow; Stephen (Karen) Berezuk, Pembroke, ON; grandchildren, Victoria and Olivia MacKinnon, Matthew, Samantha and Morgan Berezuk; sisters, Yvonne (Brian) Mauger, Little Bras d’Or; Beve (Billy) MacDonald, Millville; as well as several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Besides her parents, Cynthia was predeceased by her husband Danny Berezuk; her mother and father-in-law, Catherine and John Berezuk and her brother Gerard Young.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021
at St. Joseph Church, Little Bras d’Or, with Rev. Michel Excelant presiding. Covid-19 restrictions will be in place regarding the wearing of masks and social distancing requirements and a limited number of seats will be available in the church. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the SPCA.
