Craig’s Obituary
Craig Smith Dow, born January 30, 1965, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, died June 2, 2021 in Somerville, N.B.
He is survived by parents Ronald Smith Dow and Caroline Ann Dow, his brothers John Brent Kelly, husband of Valeria, parents of Kieran and Dylan; Paul Adair Dow, his wife Kelly and their children Taylor and Denver; Blaine Tyler Dow, husband of Emma, and their children Kincaid, Jack and Melissa Mbeba, wife of Dennis, mother of Naphtal, Elijah and Andre. Beyond immediate family, Craig also leaves behind a long list of loving cousins and dear friends.
Those who knew him remember a unique being, one who attracted them to his cutting sense of humour, wisdom, perspective, and most of all, kindness. He loved to be among people, his smile and playful spirit welcomed everyone into his circle. He was a gifted artist, working with different media to create thought provoking pieces that radiated the emotion he poured into each. He was a creator, too humble to self promote, so very few people have been exposed to his catalogue of work. The lucky ones who have are forever touched.
It seems to be those who suffer the greatest darknesses possess the gifts to share the most beauty. Craig treated himself with scrutiny and pain he would not dare inflict on others. He advocated that art should root from pleasure. He fought hard to be here, ultimately it was his big heart that stopped beating and he departed us peacefully.
He would not ask anyone to be sympathetic. Instead, he would wish the world to acknowledge these mental battles are fought by far too many of those we love, he would want to work towards resolving this issue for humanity.
In lieu of flowers, light a candle, listen to your favorite LP record (all the way through), support an artist, or make a donation to the Canadian Mental Health Society in the name of someone you’ve lost.
Craig is resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB
There will be, No visitation or Funeral Service at this time.
The family will have a private internment service at a later date.
