Craig Patrick Brake, known to many as Junior, passed away on October 29, 2021. With fond memories, he leaves behind his partner of 17 years, Dana, his son Zachary, parents Pat and Debbie Brake, sisters Kerry (Craig), Ginny (Patrick) and Wendy (Glen), his nieces Hanna, Ariella, Violette and Daisy, nephews Benjamin and Ryan, many friends and family. He was especially close with his Auntie Rene and Uncle Walter. He is predeceased by his grandparents Benoit and Brake as well as nephew Owen.
An avid outdoorsman. Craig enjoyed hunting, fishing and often dragged childhood friends into all sorts of adventures. He was particularly proud of the moose he had gotten while bow hunting. A friend had remarked that they knew a lot of people who hunted and had only ever heard of (not known) anyone who had gotten a moose with a bow. Craig was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, who proudly served in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and the Royal Canadian Airforce. He deployed overseas aboard the HMCS Winnipeg and made lasting friendships with his crew mates. Craig retired from the military in 2008 and furthered his interest in woodworking that had been sparked as a young child while shadowing his Poppy Brake. Craig was accepted into the Inside Passage School of Woodworking in 2009 and graduated a Master Craftsman of Woodworking. He created many beautiful pieces of work, with his final and most challenging piece, being a chair of his own design which he named the “Minerva”.
There will be a burial service in the spring in Stephenville NL. Donations in Craig’s memory can be made to Hospice Prince Edward, who gave such great care in his last days or Tree Canada who conduct reforestation projects.
