On Nov 12th, 2021, Cornelis Gerardus van Amsterdam (Cor), loving husband and father died peacefully at the Misericordia Hospital at the age of 95.
Cor was born a twin in the Netherlands in 1926. Post WWII, Cor served 3 years in the Royal Dutch Navy as a tailor. On July 11th, 1953, Cor married Wilhelmina (Willy) de Brie in Amsterdam. They immigrated to Canada in 1954, settling in Edmonton where they had 3 children. Cor established 2 successful businesses, “Amsterdam Tailors Ltd” in the 1960’s, and “Formals by Amsterdam” in the 1980’s.
Cor was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Anna; brothers, Gerard, Theo (Cor’s twin) (Paulina), Piet (Stien), and sister, Marie.
Cor is survived by his wife, Willy; his 3 children, Ronald (JoAnn), Denise and Desirée; grandchildren, Alannah and Mitchell; his sister, Antonia (Bertus) Holla; brothers-in-law, Cor Endstra and Jos de Brie Sr.; and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday November 22, 2021, at 11:00a.m. at St Andrew’s Catholic Church, 12810 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
