Obituary
VAN BOXTEL, Cornelia Maria
August 29, 1939 – August 4, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Cornelia “Corrie” van Boxtel of Smith, Alberta
announce her sudden passing at home at the age of 81 years.
She is survived by daughters: Angie (Ron), Lucy, Corina (Boyde); son, Francis; grandchildren:
Mikal (Kim), Taylor, Tara (Stephane), Dustin, Dayna (Lucas), Kyla, Nikolas, and Kassidy; great-
grandchildren: Tony, Grayson, Drey, Koen, and Mika; brother, Kees; sisters: Mien (Sjaak), Dinie,
Annie (Frans), and Toos (Leo).
She was predeceased by her husband, Antonius: her son, Anthony; son-in-law, Tony; brother-in-
law, Jo; and parents, Antoon and Cornelia.
Corrie and her family moved to the Otter Creek area in 1967. There was plenty of hard work on
the farm, especially in the early years, with five small children, and a husband who often worked
away from home. There were cows to milk, pigs to feed, crops to harvest and many other chores
to tackle. Life in Canada was quite different from the Netherlands where she grew up, but she
never regretted her decision to make a life here.
Corrie loved taking care of her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed sewing, baking, a good
cup of coffee, and her grandchildren – who have many memories of special times spent with their
“Oma”. There was always plenty of conversation, good food and laughter around her family
table. She looked forward to visits from overseas relatives and loved traveling around Alberta,
BC, Montana and the Yukon with them. She was always willing to help people and was a long-
time volunteer bookkeeper and timekeeper for the Traildusters Horse Club.
Corrie was very particular in everything she did, and liked things organized. She always knew the
current weather forecast, always had a “to do” list and could find humour in life’s situations. She
had a practical outlook on life and often said, “You only live once, so make the best of it!” She
will be greatly missed.
As per her wishes, there will be no funeral. There will be a private family inurnment at the Smith
Community Cemetery.
