Colleen Marie Gerrard
September 06, 1944 – June 06, 2021
Colleen Gerrard, 76, of Ship Harbour, NS, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021, with her beloved husband of 55 years, Doug, at her side. She was mother to Timothy (Stacey) and Christopher (Rhiannon), and nothing brought her greater joy than her grandsons Ryan and Rhys.
Born in Dartmouth, Colleen was the daughter of William and Margaret “Mick” Terry. One of nine children, she was predeceased by siblings Mary Walker and Tommy Terry; she is survived by John “Sonny” Terry, Patrick Terry, Gary Terry, Carol Ann Terry, Donna Gibbs, and Wendy Terry.
Colleen’s personality was infectious – when people met her, they loved her. She loved to dance and she and Doug often attended dances at Lawrencetown Community Centre. Weekend get-ways to Clam Harbour beach with Doug and friends from the shore was also a favourite.
Doug and Colleen were married in 1965 and Colleen worked at the K-Mart pharmacy. They eventually settled and raised their family on Ross Road in Westphal, where they made many life-long friends amongst their neighbours and played cards every Saturday night with family.
Colleen was devoted to her sons. Both boys were active in hockey and Colleen was an avid fan – even with Doug travelling frequently for work, she never missed a practice, driving Tim and Chris all over town, and never missed a game or tournament, which could involve driving them all over the province. She and her boys spent lots of time with family in Porter’s Lake, swimming and visiting with her sisters.
Colleen loved spending time at the family cottage on Lake Charlotte, hosting parties for friends and family, cross-country skiing, and skating. She also loved the peace and quiet and would lay out in the sun when the boys went fishing. A favourite memory is the day Doug and Chris came back to find her completely unaware a porcupine was sneaking up on her as she lay in the sun.
A long-time fan of the Canadiens, her trip to see them play in Montreal with her son Chris was one of the highlights of her life. We’re sure the Habs’ current winning streak is all for Colleen!
The Gerrard family would like to thank the caring staff at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital for their kindness. At Colleen’s request, no service is planned but there will be a celebration of life once COVID restrictions lift. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
