Claude Israel McKenzie (age 76) of Brockville was surrounded by family when he peacefully entered into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Brockville General Hospital.
Born March 18, 1945, at Bancroft, Ontario, Claude was the middle son of the late Jack and Pearl (Evans) McKenzie. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brothers Eugene and John McKenzie. He was formerly a long-time resident of both Oshawa and Kingston, Ontario.
Beloved husband of 56 wonderful years to Alberta ‘Joy’ (Bellamy) McKenzie; he was much loved by his son Paul and daughter-in-law Krista McKenzie of Nepean, ON and his daughter Joanne and son-in-law Justin Makasoff of Brockville. He was the much loved ‘Poppa’ to his grandchildren Ian, Rachel and Faith McKenzie. Beloved brother-in-law of Kay, Ruth and Dorothy. Claude will also be remembered by his nephews, nieces and many cousins.
A kind and gentle man who loved people and loved to laugh, Claude was a faithful Christian, devoted family man and loyal friend. He was a long-time employee of Ontario Hydro, and after his retirement he and Joy went on to operate their own marketing agency in eastern Ontario.
Claude loved to visit and keep in touch with his many friends, treasuring time he spent with them. Special memories include the many summers at Paudash Lake with Lorrie and Reg (deceased) Norris and their children Grant and Barb (Gord Lamont) and family.
His family appreciates all the friends who made special efforts to maintain their connection with Claude as he suffered with dementia during the last years of his life. Especially appreciated were his coffee buddies Brian Preston, John Simpson, Roger Barrington, Don Weatherhead and the late Ted Burbridge, as well as his “Hydro buddies” – Sid Luinstra, Jack Kelly and many others.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care Claude received at the end of his life from the doctors, nurses and staff of the Complex and the Palliative Care units at Brockville General Hospital.
Friends may visit the family at the Highway Pentecostal Church, 800 Stewart Blvd, Brockville on Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 2-4 pm with the Funeral Service commencing at 4 pm. Covid protocols will be in effect. In memory of Claude, donations can be made to the Highway Pentecostal Church or the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation Palliative Care.
