Clarence R. Airey
February 19, 1942 – November 19, 2021
Our loving grandfather, father, partner, sibling, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully in Calgary on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the age of 79.
Born in Stettler in 1942, Clarence was the eldest of 8 children and grew up in a loving, busy household. A good student, and athlete, growing up Clarence often did double duty as the family tutor, babysitter and sport coach for all his siblings. He excelled at math and was often the captain of many school hockey, basketball, baseball, football, and curling teams.
Upon graduating high school, Clarence worked in a coal mine until he landed an apprenticeship at McTaggart Chevrolet in Stettler. He gained his Journeyman Partsman Qualification in 1969, and shortly thereafter moved his young family to Calgary where he began a long career in the automotive parts sector. Clarence started his Partsman career in earnest with Jack Carter Chevrolet Oldsmobile, and retired from Stadium Nissan as the parts department manager in 2008.
Retirement years proved to be a lot of fun, and Clarence was known by all to be a work horse. Be it mechanics, yard work, or home re-modeling. Power tools going at the crack of dawn; wood working was one of his passions. He was happy to share his talents with anyone that was in need. In between his varied projects, golfing and planning the next golf round with friends brought him joy be it in Calgary, the Okanagan, or California.
Clarence cared deeply for his family and especially his grandchildren. Always celebrating their successes and quick with encouragement to keep striving ahead.
He is lovingly remembered by his partner, Delores Kennedy; son, Trevor (Tracy) Airey and their two children, Kira and Thomas; step-daughter, Katherine (Randal) Biedermann and their children, Donald, Markus and Curtis; and step-son, Dale (Lilian) Sheets and his son, Dalan (Kym); numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his surviving siblings, sisters Maureen, Roxine, and brother, Bill; Clarence was predeceased by his parents, Vera and Fred Airey; his wife, Dorothy; his sisters, Melinda and Clarinda; brothers, Gerald and Lorne; brothers-in-la, Roy Oslanski and Reg Langford.
A Private Celebration of Clarence’s Life will be held in the spring in accordance with his wishes, so that all may gather and rejoice in his life after the mourning passes.
