Christopher’s Obituary
Walker, Christopher Douglas – 73, Amherst, passed away December 23th, 2020 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Carl and Jean (Guislian) Walker. When Chris finished school he went to Ontario to work in Hamilton at Stelco Steel Company of Canada for several years. Returning home to Springhill, he worked at various jobs. He returned back to Ontario and again worked at Stelco in Hamilton. He returned home again in 1970, worked at Buckingham Mills Carpet Factory and then went to Oxford Frozen Foods. Chris then became a prison guard for approximately ten years, in Dorchester and Springhill. He left there to open his own business, Walker’s Quik Mart, general store for several years in Collingwood. After he closed the store, he worked at Seagull Pewter in Pugwash in various positions for 5 years. He then worked for the Housing Authority in Amherst as a painter. He later worked for Diabetes Canada as the representative for the Amherst area. Chris was a member of the Blue Knights motorcycle club. He was also a member of Knights of Pythians in Oxford. He enjoyed putting in large vegetable gardens, adored fishing, hunting and playing golf with his buddy Gary. He loved his country music and having a good time. In 2016, we bought a park model trailer in Notre Dame, NB, which we enjoyed for nearly 4 years, sitting on the deck looking over the Cocagne River. We sure enjoyed it there. The people around us were so friendly; we made lots of friends there. Chris’ passion was his motorcycles. Chris lived a vast and varied life. He was always there for his wife, Maxine, and loved his family. His favourite spot in the world was sitting on his front deck, looking at his pond and playing his music. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; son, Steven (Diana) Walker; daughter, Jean (Matthew) Cormier; stepdaughter, Debbie Mitchell; grandchildren, Tyler and Brayden Walker; Jessica and Spencer Fraser; step granddaughter, Megan Mitchell; great-granddaughter, Lily Rose Fraser; brother, Gerald (Maxine Hunter); sisters, Jane (Donald) Pettigrew and Mary Walker. He was predeceased by stepson, Carl “Randy” Mitchell; brothers, Carl, Danny and Johnny; sisters, Helen and Rosie. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 23 from 1 to 2 p.m., with service immediately following at 2 p.m., all in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, his wishes are for you all to buy a lottery ticket and have a good drink.
