Chesley’s Obituary
Nickerson, Chesley James – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chesley James, “Jimmy Nick” Nickerson. Nick, as his wife Barbara Nickerson called him, was born in Lockeport, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Alice Maude Marie Morash and Aldon Nickerson. He grew up there playing baseball and basketball. As a teenager he was invited to play on the Men’s League, Seacaps baseball team. He grew up going fishing with relatives, as did many. He loved deer hunting, trout fishing and passed these loves on to his family. Jimmy Nick left Nova Scotia to join the Air Force. He trained in Canada and the United States throughout his career as an air traffic controller. He rose to the rank of Master Corporal, often being the crew chief. He enjoyed twenty years in the military, meeting many wonderful people and having experiences around the world. He met and fell in love with his wife Barbara in the Air Force. It was a case of instant attraction. They were together for more than sixty years. When they came back to Nova Scotia, he was posted at CFS Barrington in Port La Tour, Baccaro Point. Jim and Barb built a house in Clam Point, Cape Sable Island. They had two children, Pam and Terry. There after his military career, he built a sub division to sell house lots, went fishing, among many other pursuits. After some time, work took Barb and Jimmy to Winnipeg. After years out west, working and enjoying life, Barb and Jim came home. They built another house In Clyde River NS for their retirement. Jimmy Nick passed away on Thanksgiving Sunday, resting comfortably at the Bayside home in Barrington. He was 84. Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Ellen Nickerson (Fairbridge), Children; Pam Samson, (Alan) & Terry Nickerson, Grandchildren; Nicholas, Benjamin, Jennifer, & Katherine, many nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout Canada and Scotland. We wish to extend many thanks to the staff and residents of Bayside home, where he was well cared for, as is Barbara, who was able to join him there. Please send any donations to either the Heart and Stroke foundation or to Bayside home, in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington.
