Obituary of Charles Albert Murphy
Age 95, of Sheet Harbour, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2021 in Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, Veteran Wing, Pictou. Born in Sheet Harbour, August 25, 1925, he was a son of the late Levi and Eleanor (Richards) Murphy. Ab was enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1941-1945 and during his weekend leave he worked at the local pulp mill in Sheet Harbour. Following his enlistment he was employed at the pulp mill until the mill was closed in 1971. He then was employed as Hydro Operator at Nova Scotia Power, Sheet Harbour for 15 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a very active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and a past President of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 58. His family was always very important to him. He is survived by daughters, Joy (Louis) Theriault, Schumberg, Ont., Louise Oickle, MacLellans Brook; sons, Leroy, Dartmouth, Victor (Iris), Truro, Dale and John (Pam), both of Sheet Harbour; sister, Agnes Murphy, Hammonds Plains; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife, Trixie; sisters, Mary DeCoste, Gladys Ferguson; brothers, Douglas and Joseph; son-in-law, Wayne Oickle; grandson, Christopher. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 27th in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour, Archbishop Martin Currie officiating. Burial at a later date. Family request no flowers. A donation in Ab’s memory may be made to a charity of your choose. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral attendance is by invitation only.
