Cecil’s Obituary
LANGER, Cecil Wayne – of Middleton, formerly of Gardiner Mines, Cape Breton. It is with heavy hearts that we share with our family and friends, the sudden passing of Cecil Wayne Langer on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at the age of 71. Born in Gardiner Mines, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late William Thomas Langer and Florence Dionisia (Gouthro) Langer, Gardiner Mines. Prior to retirement, Cecil was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 23 years, sent on various deployments and peacekeeping missions. After retirement, Cecil also worked as a civilian during cadet camps in CFB Greenwood making friends everywhere he went. Many who knew him couldn’t mistake his “how she goin’ b’y” with his thick Cape Breton accent. In his younger years, Cecil enjoyed an ice-cold Schooner, playing the guitar and a good round of darts. He spent 41 years married to the love of his life, the late Mary “Elaine” (MacIsaac) Langer while being her primary caregiver as she lived with ALS. After they were married in 1978, they had two children and lived in various places across Canada before settling down in the Annapolis Valley. Cecil could be found walking his beloved dog of 14 years, the late “Maggie”, polishing his car, scratching the latest lotto tickets, watching the hockey or ball game, and sitting down to enjoy a meal with his daughter at his favourite restaurants. Left to mourn his loss, is his daughter, Michelle (Steve Rogers), Chester; sisters, Jackie (Paul Labelle), Sackville; Tina (Mike) Logan, Greenwood and Wilena MacKillop, Halifax; brothers, Tom (Millie), Trenton, Ont., and Simon; sisters-in-law, Jeanette (MacIsaac) MacDougall, South Bar; and Ann Frances MacIsaac, Coxheath. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Cecil was predeceased by his wife, Mary “Elaine” (MacIsaac) Langer, Middleton; son, Michael Langer, Kentville; four brothers (all as children), and one sister (infant); father-in-law, Michael “Johnny Mick” MacIsaac, Sydney; mother-in-law, Mary Eileen (MacPhee) MacIsaac, Sydney; brothers-in-law, Gregory MacIsaac, Sydney and John Alan MacDougall, South Bar. Cecil will always be remembered for his sarcastic jokes, quick wit and the proud way he spoke about his family. Cremation has already taken place. Interment will follow at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Charitable donations in Cecil’s memory can be made to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia in honour of his late wife, Elaine. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
