Obituary of Catherine Anne McDonald
January 10, 1958 – May 5, 2021
On May 5, in Calgary, following a brief illness. Catherine Anne (Cathy) was born in Denver, Colorado, on January 10, 1958, the third child and first daughter of Dr. Ian and Anne McDonald. Through her life, she remained proud of her dual citizenship. Cathy grew up in Saskatoon — and for a year, in Scotland. She attended Greystone Heights, Evan Hardy, and Nutana, followed by studies at Brandon and Mount Royal universities. She was a gifted athlete, especially swimming, played the trumpet, and was a frequent participant in Saskatoon Summer Players. She loved Broadway musicals and old movies. In adulthood, Cathy moved to Calgary, where she developed a community of supportive friends, including the Rainbow Elders. Cathy was predeceased by her parents and her partner, Brenda. She is survived by her brothers, David (Lois) and Bruce (Bernie), and her sisters, Susan and Shelagh, as well as her nephews, Michael, Stephen (Kortney), and Harry. For their support of Cathy, the family thanks Wendy Land, Cathy’s friends Donna Thorsten and Rosemary Taylor, and Dr. Malhotra and the staff of the Alex Seniors Health Centre in Calgary. In keeping with COVID restrictions, there will not be a public memorial service in Saskatoon. In memory of Cathy, please consider donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Catherine
