Catherine Jane Leak Palmer Wednesday October 13th 2021

Catherine Jane Leak Palmer (nee Dauphinee)
September 20, 1936 – October 13, 2021
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beautiful and vibrant Mom, Cathie. She leaves behind her two Boys Billy (Kim) and Rob Leak, her beloved Grandchildren Emily and Will Leak, her Stepchildren Tony (Donna), Ian , and Heather Palmer and Grandchildren Mac, Hayley and Charlie Lowden. She was predeceased by her husbands Bill Leak and Paul Palmer.
After Billy and Rob were born, Mom still found time to volunteer at several places, including The Junior League, Distress Centre and Sunnybrook Hospital. Providing emotional and crisis support to many in the GTA. At 47 Cathie embarked on a new career. Combining her two biggest passions, travel and figure skating, Cathie guided hundreds of people around the globe to the World Figure Skating Championships. Her gift of connecting people and making them feel welcome created great memories. Cathie and her group were well known amongst the Canadian Skating teams – as often held outside of North America, decked out in Red and White. Her group were often the only Canadians there to support the team. Cathie also returned to figure skating after a 35 year hiatus and thoroughly enjoyed her time ice dancing and competing in synchronized skating. She made many friends along the way, always returning with tales and tokens of memories from her adventures, with souvenirs being a staple as family Christmas gifts.
Mom was also an avid dancer, curler, water skier and golfer and cherished her time at her cottage on Lake Joseph. She took great pride in watching her grandchildren follow in her footsteps, whether on a skating rink or a golf course. Never short on stories, she loved sharing anecdotes of her days growing up at Bishop Strachan School and the lake, and of her reunions with friends from Camp Tanamakoon and extended family in Eastern Canada. She will be remembered for her love of the classics as a regular attendee at The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Ballet, Opera and the Parry Sound Festival of Music, her grace and style, and her adoration of pups-particularly Pandy and Coco. Everyone who knew Cathie will miss her infectious smile and zest for life.
We would like to thank Danielle, the wonderful care team at Amica Unionville and Dr. Gorman for taking such great care of Mom over the last few years.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto in Cathie’s name. A private service will be held.
