Caroline Carrie Elsie Skinner Lawrence Sunday September 5th 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Caroline “Carrie” Skinner, 87 of Garden Lots, NS announce her passing on Sunday, Sept 5, 2021 at SSRH Bridgewater with her family by her side.
Carrie was born July 23, 1934 on Bay d’leau Island, Newfoundland. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Jane Lawrence and wife of the late Arthur Skinner.
Carrie started working at an early age as a housekeeper in St. John’s, NL. She married young and she and her husband had 5 children. They moved to Lunenburg in 1956 with young children as her husband was a fisherman and Lunenburg was where the jobs were then. She worked for several years at High Liner Seafoods in Lunenburg while her kids were in school.
Carrie was an avid traveller. She and her husband took several trips to the US before he died. Her love of travelling continued for many years after, with trips to Jamaica, Bermuda, Greece, Italy, Turkey, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales as well as several places in the US including 2 trips to Hawaii. She also travelled extensively in Canada. She loved cruising and visited the Caribbean, Alaska and the Panama Canal. Many of her trips were taken with family members and friends.
Carrie loved Lunenburg but she never forgot her Newfoundland roots. She kept in contact with relatives there and went back for visits on several occasions. She was a bit of a “movie star” as she appeared as an “extra” in many movies that were filmed in Lunenburg and surrounding areas. She made many friends over those years and she met several prominent movie actors.
Carrie loved her family. She always looked forward to visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. There were always treats ready for when they popped in. She loved knitting and quilting and many benefited from her handiwork.
Carrie was a devoted member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg. She was a member of the Ladies Guild and the Altar Guild for many years.
Carrie is survived by daughters; Audrey, Halifax and Patricia (Michael) Buckmaster, First Peninsula; son, Junior (Betty), Lunenburg; 7 grandchildren, David (Angela) Buckmaster, Alicia (Marty) Smith, Brittany (Jon) Freeman, Tyrone Daurie, Taylor (Elisha) Daurie, Dehlia Skinner, Alan Hodder; 9 great grandchildren; brother Wallace (Carolyn) Lawrence, Lockeport and many nieces and nephews.
