Obituary
The family are heartbroken to announce the peacefull passing of Robert Carl Ballance on May 11, 2021at age 57. Much loved husband of 33 years and best friend of Rhonda Ballance (Parks) and dear father of Lindsay (Drew), Carson (Holly) and the late Tyler Ballance (January 2021). Son of the late Basil and Frances Ballance and son-in-law of Harry Parks (late Joyce). Dear brother of Karen McNichols (Ossie); and the late Dennis Ballance. Brother-in-law of Darlene Lowry (Tom);Marilyn Parks (late Alan). Dear uncle of Brock McNichols (Jessie), Melissa Hodgen (Zach), Kurt Lowry and Kylee Taylor (Chris) and extended family. Carl was in battle with cancer over the last 34 years having multiple cancers and many surgeries with Rhonda and family by his side always with a positive approach until this last battle that took him from us. He used to say “in some ways having cancer at such a young age taught me to live life to the fullest because I knew I wouldn’t live forever”. Carl’s guiding principal was family and to provide a fun and exciting life for his children and to experience as much as you can. Carl was a caring and devoted father, brother, uncle and friend. His wife Rhonda is not loosing her husband but a life long love and best friend that grew up together and lived life to the fullest sharing dreams, goals and exciting hobbies together. He had a quiet and peaceful approach to life and that guided him to be such a caring and special man. Carl worked as a construction and industrial Maintenance/Millwright within the Millwright union and multiple industrial companies and retired from Invista (Canada) to live his last years fulfilling his dream while also being on the board of the Newburgh Cemetery. Carl was a mischievous and adventurous child which followed and guided him throughout his families lives. Carl was a qualified parachuter and enjoyed the exciting experience and soon began another sport that included Rhonda racing motorcycles at Shannonville speedway and took us across Ontario, Quebec and into the States in their early married years until they had kids which led them down a different path of camping, fishing and of course sports with the kids. Lindsay in her team sports (baseball, volleyball) and the boys (Carson & Tyler) began to ride 4 wheelers and race dirt bikes, who came by it naturally as Carl raced when he was a teenager. The family raced for 10 plus years as “Ballance Racing” spending all week wrenching bikes and working to head off to races every weekend from April to October to camp and race with family and friends as a family sport with Lindsay as cheerleader and family fan. Carl and family had many race wins and championships within CMRC and MMRS with Carl’s goal of moving to Pro ranks by winning a race and finishing 2nd at Walton Nationals as a Vet Junior (40+). He was always a threat with a great “holeshot” skill. Carl was also an avid hunter and angler that developed with his brother Dennis and then followed to the boys with Tyler (late) taking that love and expanding to be his largest passion, who was taken from us in January 2021 in a tragic accident fishing. Carl was always along side the younger guys heading out on the water or to the field for geese, Carl felt so proud that his children wanted him with them regardless of what they were doing. He was so proud of his son Carson who is following in his Millwright trade and has accomplished so many new hobbies that Carl also enjoyed plus some new ones. Raising chickens, turkey and geese and gardening to blacksmithing and renovations. Carl was the proudest dad to Lindsay (his little girl) who was his shining star and was number 1 to him regardless if she was competing in track, playing volleyball around the province and country to watching her baseball games…he was always her biggest fan. Carl and Rhonda and the kids all traveled every winter somewhere, sometimes to the sunny south or skiing/snowboarding the hills in Ontario, Quebec or in the States. Always up for adventure and experiencing other cultures and hobbies. These hobbies include parasailing, scuba diving down south and seeing who could ski the fastest down the hill or through the trees while in the mountains. When Carl wasn’t in the shop or barn working on his latest project, you could find him at the family cottage, passed down from late Dennis where he used to love to swim, cook some delicious meats on the bbq and enjoy the beautiful view on Knowlton Lake surrounded by trees and often family. Carl was always a handy man, helping and assisting to fix anything that came his way; lawnmowers, cars, boats, roofs, trailers, you name it, he could help. His much loved car, SVO mustang that he had gotten as a young adult, sits proudly with all his tools and other toys that helped make the life here a wonderful adventure. Carl and Rhonda’s goal and dream were to come back to the Ballance farm and build a family home for his children and live his remaining years back in the Newburgh area, little did we know that he would only get to enjoy his dream and beautiful accomplishment for a few short months. Carl will be deeply missed by his family and friends but remembered always as the planner and great husband, Dad, Brother and friend that he was. Please see the memorial video attached to remember a life lived well and a love of life of Carl and his family. No public service will be held, however if desired, donations in Carl’s memory made to the Belleville General Hospital Foundation, University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, Hunters and Anglers Association or charity of your preference would be appreciated by the family.
