Carl’s Obituary
Carl Alford Doherty ~ 90 years old and formerly of Waterville, Kings Co., passed away peacefully in the Grand View Manor in Berwick on the 6th of May, 2021. Born in Whites Corner, Kings Co., Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Harold and Rosa (Misner) Doherty. Also predeceased are his brothers, Harry, Ken and Grant. Carl is survived by his beloved wife, Eunice (Rockwell); sons, Harold (Heather), Allan (Glenda) and Philip (Patti); daughters, Belinda Armstrong (Chris), Sandra VonRichter (Kenny) and Diane Bean (Howard), as well as his remaining brother, Percy (Connie); sisters-in-law, Linda, Alice and Gloria. Carl had 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren who will all miss his quiet and loving nature. Dad was employed with the Canadian Armed Forces and served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders (North Novies) as well as the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) from 1951 until 1977. Upon retirement to Waterville, he was employed as the caretaker for the Berwick Cemetery and as a Special Education driver, driving children to and from School for years. Dad’s most important role in life was that of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. A soft-spoken man, he believed that actions spoke louder than words, in treating others fairly and with honor and a handshake was golden. He was old school. He never said what he did not mean and when he was asked for advice or his opinion, it was worth listening to. His motto should have been: Love is not what you say, it’s what you do…and he showed this love unconditionally. Dad faced each of life’s challenges head on. He loved all of his family, especially his parents and in-laws and would do anything for them. He battled cancer and heart disease and never once complained. He loved all animals, but he had a natural affinity with horses, dogs and cats. He enjoyed fishing for mackerel, was a champion potato grower and he was always willing to lend a helping hand whether mechanically, with gardening or household problems. He loved his home and was happy tinkering in his garage. He left behind wonderful memories that will be treasured and laughed over in the years to come. Our family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the Winslow, Franey and Chase Units at the Grand View Manor for their wonderful care. He was treated with respect, humor, and compassion. In keeping with Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside committal service will take place in Berwick Cemetery, in the future when his wife Eunice will be laid to rest with him… together again. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carl Doherty can be made to the Waterville and District Volunteer Fire Department or the Black Rock Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
