It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Captain Levi Martin Hodder, age 78, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, on Sunday, December 19, 2021.
Born in Burin, NL, he was the son of the late Samuel and Alice (Hines) Hodder.
Levi worked as a fisherman for most of his life. He worked on draggers for National Sea Products and Clearwater Fisheries, retiring as a captain in 2001.
He was also a talented carpenter who enjoyed working on many projects from kitchen cabinets to holiday crafts. In earlier years he loved to take his family camping throughout Newfoundland as well as various stops along the Cabot Trail. Levi enjoyed music, especially country and was a frequent patron of the North Sydney Fire Hall. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney and a former member of Fulton Orange Lodge in North Sydney.
He is survived by his darling wife and love of his life for over 55 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Mayo) Hodder; by his four children, Paula (Vaughn) Whyte, Sydney Mines; Dianne (David) Power, North Sydney; Valerie Hodder (Blair Bishop), Ross Ferry; Colin Hodder, Calgary; seven grandchildren, Kathleen, Kenneth, Meagan, Brooke, Colin, Curt, Florence; four great grandchildren, Thomas, Madison, Winston, Lennon; four sisters, Madeline (Edgar) Broydell, Edie Jean (Alvin) Taylor, both of Burin, NL; Mary Hodder, Marystown, NL; Faye (Cedric) Banfield, Garnish, NL; three brothers, Robert (Irene) Hodder, Burin, NL; Maxwell (Jane) Hodder, Marystown, NL; Randy (Bonnie) Hodder, Rock Harbour, NL; his brother-in-law, Ray Grandy, Garnish, NL and his life-long friend, John Fitzgerald.
Besides his parents, Levi was predeceased by his son, Winston Hodder; three grandchildren, Hogan and Morgan Power, Skye Hodder; a sister Patricia Grandy and three brothers, Kenneth, Thomas and Samuel Hodder.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Canon Reg MacDonald officiating. Covid-19 protocol regarding proof of vaccination, photo ID, wearing of masks and limited seating will be adhered to. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
