Capt David Arthur Colquhoun Cameron ret’d January 4 2021

Cameron, David Arthur Colquhoun Capt. (ret’d), age 89, of Halifax. We are sad to announce the passing of our father on January 4, 2021 after a lengthy courageous fight with cancer.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late James and Pearl (Chute). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Judith (Higgins); and older sister, Geraldine Nicole.
He is survived by his children, Wendy Cameron of Halifax, James (Marialex) Cameron of Virginia and Heather (Timothy) Mitchell of Alberta. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Jillian, Kate, Connor, Callan, Virginia, Luis and Eduardo; great-grandchildren, Ava and Alexander; younger sister, Barbara Parker, Dartmouth; and many extended family members and wonderful friends.
Dad worked as a carpenter for Brookfields when he was a young man. He eagerly joined the Halifax Fire Department and rose through the ranks, serving several years as a devoted and admired Captain. He retired after a distinguished career spanning almost four decades.
Dad was an avid fisherman and hunter, with the skills of an expert marksman. He hunted both large and small game, fished freshwater and loved deep sea fishing and even lobstered for a period. He could make his own nets, loaded his own ammunition and fletched his own arrows.
We will never forget the captivating stories he told throughout the years about his experiences as a firefighter or as a seasoned outdoorsman. He taught us everything from how to net minnows in the mudflats of Chezzetcook to how to jig for squid off Sambro to how to cook the perfect turkey.
Later years he enjoyed playing pool, crib, darts, cooking and providing his home grown vegetables and preserves to friends and family. Always creating his own twist to a well known recipe, his favourite line will always be remembered as, “Try this… I tried something new.”
A special thank you to his caring neighbour and good friend, Brian who without him Dad would have been unable to remain in his home for so many years. Good friends, Jack, Patti and Gerald were close to his heart as well as his most trusted buddy, Stevie the cat.
Many, many thanks to the wonderful nurses and doctors at VG Palliative care unit for making our father’s final days ones of comfort and support. It was Dad’s wishes that anyone able to make a contribution in these troubling times to make it to VG Palliative Care Unit or Canadian Red Cross.
A Memorial Service will take place at another date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
