Murray John (Jack) Campbell.
May 14, 1931 – December 21, 2021
Jack passed away Tuesday December 21, 2021. He was born into a family of 10 children and lived in Drumheller for his younger life. He graduated from Drumheller High School and began his career as a senior lineman for Canadian Utilities in Hanna, construction foreman for Burns & Dutton in Calgary where he worked on the Big Four and Calgary Post office buildings. An illness in the family resulted in starting his career in agriculture and registered show sheep in Orkney and Caroline, Alberta. While in agriculture he was President of the Alberta and Canadian Sheep Breeders Association and Chairman of the Board of Lamb Processors Co-Op in Innisfail. He was involved in municipal politics as Chairman of Caroline & District Recreation Board and Athletic Association, President of Caroline Chamber of Commerce and Associate Director of Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Board. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Elks Club. He also served as Councilor of I.D. #10 and founding member and Vice-President of Improvement Districts of Alberta. He then was involved in Real Estate sales and then turned to Alberta politics where he was elected as MLA for Rocky Mountain House constituency for 3 terms until his retirement in 1989, While MLA he was appointed as Party Whip by Premier Don Getty and Chairman and member of numerous government committees.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna of 33 years, one remaining sister Viola Lowen of Drumheller, one remaining sister-in-law Emily of Victoria, his only son, Jeff Campbell (Lee-Ann), step-son Mike Kuhnel (Gillian), step-daughter Susan Manning (John) and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Previously deceased by parents Stanley and Catherine Campbell, brothers Victor, Robert (Curly), Stan, Don and sisters Evelyn, Vivian, Vera and Reta.
A cremation has been performed by Serenity Funeral Services and a memorial service will be conducted at a later date to coincide with current COVID-19 restrictions. Donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital or a foundation of your choosing.
