Calvert Rideout February 2 1943 February 13 2021 (age 78)

Obituary
Passed peacefully surrounded by his family in St. John’s on Saturday, February 13, 2021. Calvert was born in Cottlesville on February 2, 1943.
He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth & Louisa, siblings; Allister, Bessie, Harold, his father and mother in-law, Garland & Ruby Boyde and grandson Marshall Stuckey.
Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, Marguerite; children, Arlene (Melodie) and Stephen (Roxann). Calvert leaves his pride and joy, his 3 grandchildren Robin (Rhyan), Grace (Brandon), Sarah (Andrew), great-grandson Liam, his younger brother George (Hughena) as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
Calvert enjoyed his work – many kinds of work. He began his career as a logger at the age of 17 with the AND company and retired 42 years later having worked through many changes in the industry; from bucksaw to power saw to skidder and finishing up the last decade of his career operating mechanized harvesters (which he thought were awesome!) but it was the friendships that he built with the men he worked with that he valued most and spoke of often.
Calvert loved his family. There was simply nothing that he would not do for them and he made sure that each one felt special and loved by him. He spent countless hours working on projects for his children and grandchildren. His advice, perspective and example were deeply rooted in his walk with God and these blessings will be forever treasured by his family. He deeply loved his entire family, but he adored his bride most of all. As he warmly declared at their 50th wedding anniversary celebration, “I am proud of the choice I made…if I had a chance to do it all again I would do it in a heartbeat…I’ve had a good life with the girl I married”.
Calvert lived for his God. A description of his life not set in the context of his love for God would be a description of the beach without ever mentioning the ocean. It was this relationship that produced the wellspring of blessings that Calvert’s life produced for his family, his friends, his church and his community. In a complicated world he lived out the only course he felt worth living. The course laid out in Micah 6:8…“And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”. Calvert sought what was beautiful and right, he didn’t judge – but always loved and his humble walk with God remains a brightly lit path for all who knew him. He loved his God without reservation. He loved his church family – because he understood that it was his saviour’s bride. He cherished God‘s word because it made him feel closer to the builder of his heavenly home, in which he now joyfully resides.
Due to Covid-19 revised restrictions there will be a private family viewing followed by a graveside service.
