Obituary
Our Hearts are heavy as we are left to mourn the loss of our dear Mother, Bridget (Bea) Maude Serroul. Mom’s struggle with Lewy Body Dementia is finally over and although we will miss her forever, we are grateful she is finally at peace. Mom was born and raised in Sydney Mines, the oldest of her 10 siblings. She was the daughter of Adam and Maggie (Mills)Campbell formally of Atlantic Street. Mom grew up surrounded by love and laughter. Being the oldest of her siblings, she was the consummate big sister caring for her younger siblings whenever Mama needed a break. Often taking them to the beach or putting on plays to entertain both themselves and the neighbourhood children. Once she finished her schooling, she worked for a local Grocer for a few years prior to her Marriage in 1956. As a stay at home mom for most of her life, her home and her family were everything to her. Often referred to affectionately as Queen Bea, her home was her Castle, where she often held Court. Mom and Dad were welcoming to family, friends and strangers alike. From a very young age, we knew that everyone was welcomed in our home. There was always a seat at the table and a bed on offer whenever anyone dropped by. If you were a guest in our home, rest assured you would be treated like royalty. When friends or family visited, she made it a point to know and prepare your favourite meal. Once we children grew up and became more independent, Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling to or with their family across various parts of Canada and the US. These were special time for Mom and she often spoke fondly of them in her later years. Mom’s greatest joy’s were the times she spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was lovingly known as Nanny or Nuna. She had a special relationship with each and everyone of them and her warmth and love were always felt whenever you were with her. She was always a great listener and a keeper of secrets. You could tell Mom anything, confident she would keep your trust. She was a beautiful soul both inside and out and anyone who knew her could see clearly why Dad fell in love with her some 60 odd years ago. Heads turned when Mom entered a room. She had a regal presence about her. In addition to being kind hearted and compassionate, she was grace under fire, intelligent and very witty. She was everything to everyone and her loss will be felt by all who knew and loved her. We take comfort in knowing she has finally been reunited with Dad and would like to believe they are off enjoying their next Holiday together. In addition to her parents, Mom is predeceased by Dad, Russell (Russie) Serroul, her son Marcel Serroul and more recently her grandson , Marcel Morrison. Brothers Jonathan and David in infancy. Sisters in law Sandra Serroul, Mary Flanagan , Theresa Reid, Diane Serroul and Katie Campbell. Brothers in law Walter Serroul and Martin (Sunny)Serroul, Sam Reid and Bill Flanagan. Mom is survived by her daughters Cathy Reashore (Wayne) Arlene Serroul (Stephane) Michelle Serroul. Grandchildren, Shannon Brown, Nicole Morrison (Jason), Marc Lyle (Brandy) Natasha Morrison, Meghan Lyle (Cody) Marybeth Lyle as well as 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Siblings, Phillip (Bud) Campbell (Barbara), Margie Sparks (Bob), Adam Campbell, Lena Aylward, Joan Eavis, (Clay), Raymond Campbell (Jackie) Howie Campbell, (Barb), Marylou Macintosh (Darrell) and Wayne Campbell, (Anne), Carolann (Danny), Celia McNeil (Joey) Judy Serroul Astephen (Peter), Butch Serroul (Louretta), Vince Serroul (Regina), Jeanette Serroul Forrest (Brian) and Ellie Serroul (Shaun). Numerous Nieces and Nephews and extended family. No service will be held at this time as per Mom’s wishes, however a private Celebration of her Life will be held next summer for Family and close friends. Date to be determined. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care or Hospice Unit, Regional Hospital, or a charity of your choice. In closing, we would like to say a special thank you to the Palliative Care team who cared for Mom in her final days, allowing her to pass peacefully with the grace and dignity she deserved. We will be eternally grateful.
