Brian George Stone Withers – November 28, 1931 to August 15, 2021
With love, hope, sadness and finally resignation, we had to say our good-byes to our beloved Husband, Dad, Uncle, Grandpa, friend, associate and colleague today.
Brian was amazing – he embraced his life and all those he met throughout his almost 90 years with a positive, caring, sincerely heartfelt, outlook on life. Everyone loved him.
From his birth and early years in Regina, Saskatchewan to his years in Edmonton, Alberta, then Vancouver and finally Ontario, he embraced his options and forged on, his family always his focus.
While in Alberta, Brian met his wife of 65 years, Phyllis, as her high school basketball coach. After becoming a Chemical Engineer through the University of Alberta, Edmonton, he married Phyllis, welcomed their daughter, Dawne, and then moved to Port Moody, British Columbia, where he settled into a career with British American Oil Company (eventually Gulf Oil). He there celebrated the birth of his son, David, and then moved the family to further his career in Toronto, Ontario. He never settled for what was and always moved forward.
After a career change, Brian settled in Mooretown, Ontario, where he designed and created an amazing solar home which became a social hub for family and friends. After some time, his career was chosen for him….early retirement. He then found Collingwood as his place of choice. Brian and Phyllis embraced their retirement years at LogJam, a lovely log home where they welcomed family and friends often. Christmas was awesome.
There are many people to thank along Brian’s journey to now – the Withers/Neilsen clan, the Mississauga “Geriatrics”, the many neighbours throughout the years, including the Craigleith folks…Jay, Jean. Too many to mention, but you’re in his and our hearts, always.
Our family is forever grateful to all the staff at Campbell House Hospice for their sincere care, kindness and compassion over the last few days. And we can’t say enough how we appreciate the care and love Brian received over the last year at Balmoral Place Retirement Community in Collingwood.
Brian has left behind – and we’re missing him so very much – Phyllis (his wife), daughter Dawne and son David (Steph), his grandkids, Emma (Dan), Darryl, Julianne and sweet Audrey, his nephew Grant (Michelle) and grandniece Renee.
Life will not be the same…
If you wish to offer a donation, Dad would wish you to do so to what you feel passionate about….and he’d smile that you did.
Love you, miss you, forever will hold you in our hearts….
