It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Brian D. Mitchelitis of North Sydney on Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Florence on January 3, 1950, Brian was the son of the late Joseph and Bridget (Laffin) Mitchelitis. Brian started his working career sailing on the great lake boats for a short time before becoming a coal miner with Devco at Prince Mine until his retirement. In his free time, Brian enjoyed bowling, baseball, and playing pool. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in North Sydney.
Brian is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sharlene (Quirk) Mitchelitis, as well as many nieces and nephews that Brian was very fond of.
Besides his parents, Brian was predeceased by brothers Joseph, Russell, Billy, and Gordon, along with his sister Mary McGean.
A private family burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Cape Breton Autism Society. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
