Obituary
Brian T. Brady
Brian’s family is saddened to announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Friday, May 28, 2021, with wife Maura, daughter Corrina and longtime friend, Chaplain Lloyd, at his side, after living with cancer for 12 years.
Born in Halifax on October 31, 1953, Brian moved to Cape Breton with his family at the age of nine and spent most of his life on Brady Drive in Little Bras D’or. He met and married his beautiful wife Maura and they started a family. His career on land included carpentry and farming (20 years on Southside Boularderie, his happy place) while his work at sea took place on Ontario’s lake boats and Marine Atlantic ferries. He travelled widely, to places like China and Belgium, Hawaii and other American states and much of Canada. On a mission trip to Japan, he helped build a church and attended its first service. He enjoyed hearing and speaking many languages and learned to greet friends and order coffee in many of them! A lifelong learner, he loved music, playing guitar daily, singing, sketching, playing cards, riding a motorcycle and going for drives, raising animals and watching the History Channel. He watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with grandchildren, encouraging them to learn. Sunday nights you’d find him at his brother Rick’s house, jamming and singing with Maura, Gloria and Corrie.
Brian lived his life with integrity, “One Day at a Time.” He was humble, optimistic, caring, never judgmental and rich with humor and a contagious laugh. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, teaching them how to drive, mow the lawn, split and stack wood, do carpentry, play guitar, drive a tractor, use a chainsaw, shingle a roof, farming, cook, morals, to try and have a positive outlook on life, minding their manners, encouraging them in their musical endeavors while leaving great memories. He especially enjoyed his nephew Rhylen’s morning visits with endless conversation, hugs and singing. His love and good influence lives on in the many people to whom this unique and wonderful man related.
Left to miss and remember him are his wife of 46 years, Maura (Stapleton), son Jason (Lori Kapustinsky) of Lloydminster (AB), daughter Corrina (Hunter McNeil) of Florence (NS), grandchildren Matthew, Haley (Paul Ryan) and Jaden Walsh, their mom Lisa (Dave), Brady and Maryella McNeil, brother and best friend Ricky (Gloria), their children Sherilyn (Terry), Holly (Justin), Ricky (Natasha) and their children Tyler, Aliya, James, Cody and Dawson, nephew Kevin McNeil, nephew and godson Chris Bonar and many nephews, nieces and cousins, brothers-in-law Bryan (Anne Marie), Eddie, Bill (Janice), sisters-in-law Charmaine (Mike), Verna (Colin), Lucy (Leo), Corrie, Judy (Stephen), Paula (Glenn), Suzanne and Starr (Patrick). Friendship with Brian was a privilege enjoyed by many, including Ricky, Clifford, Bryan, Sandy, Donnie and Pauline, Bill and Alicia, Mike B, Mike G, John and Wendy, Patrick, Richard F, Gilbert M, James D, Stephen, Leo, Jimmy, Wayne, Heather, Ian and Lloyd.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, John Joseph (Dick) and Mary Catherine (Kay MacEachern) Brady as well as sisters Marie, Shirley, Patricia and Cathy, in-laws Eddie and Mary Stapleton, brothers-in-law Mark and Shane Stapleton, nephews Ryan MacNeil and Mark Barber.
There will be no visitation and funeral. Family members will be notified when plans for a memorial service are final. Donations to be made to the Cancer Centre or Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Revelations 21:4 – He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore. For the former things have passed away.
In the words of his nephew Rhylen, Cover me in sunshine, shower me in good times, tell me the worlds been spinning since the beginning and everything will be alright. Cover me in sunshine. Love you Brian, Miss you!
