MUELLER, Betty Lee –
It is with sadness that the family of Betty Lee Mueller
announces the death of their mother on Monday, November 2, 2020, at
the age of 95. Betty had a rich and varied life. Born in Pittsburgh,
Penn., she attended the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, majoring in
voice. After spending years with her husband, the late Rev. Robert
Mueller, undertaking community development work in India; serving
churches in Ohio, Wisconsin and Illinois; and supporting the
civil-rights movement in Chicago, she again studied voice under
leading professionals in Chicago, and subsequently performed in the
Lyric Opera of Chicago and at select dinner venues which featured
operatic offerings.
She also found her calling serving as Activities Director at
a large retirement community in Chicago and later at Alderwood
Residential Facility in Baddeck, Cape Breton. Operating under her new
motto “Bloom Where You Are Planted”, Betty left the city
behind with Robert and settled in their beloved Orangedale, where
Robert served as Minister of the River and Lakeside Pastoral Charge of
the United Church of Canada. In Cape Breton she enjoyed many
additional pleasures of her life: gardening, baking, crafting and
more
Betty is survived by three of her children, Christine, Eric,
Patricia; sister, Marjorie; brother, William; three grandchildren; and
other beloved family members. She was predeceased by her husband,
Robert; son, Gary; brothers, Donald, James.
Betty’s body has been cremated. Visitation will be
held on Wednesday, August 4, from 4-8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock
Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held on Thursday,
August 5 at 2 p.m. in River Denys United Church, with interment to
follow in Malagawatch Cemetery.
