It is with great sadness that I inform you that my beloved and loving wife, Betty Jane, lost her fight with cancer on Sunday, September 12, 2021. We were together over forty years, and those years were filled with love, laughter, dogs and many adventures in Canada, Scotland, and abroad.
Betty was born and raised in Saskatchewan, the daughter of the late Margaret and Derril McLeod. She is survived by me, her husband Alex, her twin sister Heather and cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her older brother Malcolm.
Betty was vibrant and had an infectious laugh. There was never a dull moment with Betty. She had a quick wit and a fabulous sense of humour.
A woman of many talents and interests, Betty had several careers over her life, including teacher, Anglican deacon, and business woman. We spent several years in Scotland after our marriage and upon returning to Canada, happily settled in British Columbia (Victoria and Squamish). Betty enjoyed our many summers of cottage life with family and friends in Saskatchewan and the Cowichan Valley.
She was an enthusiastic and skilled sportswoman and enjoyed golfing and lawn bowling. She sang in several choirs and was a proud deacon of the Anglican Church for over 20 years. Betty cared deeply about people and her community and made many lives better with her presence.
She will be sorely missed.
Betty and I were supported by relatives and friends during her last months. We thank you for this.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021, at 2 o’clock p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, 930 Burdett Avenue, Victoria, BC. Masks and social distancing are required for indoor public spaces at this time. The Service will be livestreamed on christchurchcathedral.bc.ca
