Obituary For Betty (Eady) (Drysdale) Johannsen
Betty (Eady) (Drysdale) Johannsen, resident of Mackenzie Place, in Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the age of 90 years. Betty was born on May 13, 1931, to Wilfred and Annie Eady, in smith, AB. She grew up on the farm with her older brother Morris.
Betty married Fred Drysdale on December 24, 1951, while they were home from the bush camps for Christmas where they both worked. They purchased a farm just outside of Grande Prairie where they began a dairy farm. In 1952, Judy (Gene Bombier) arrived, followed in 1955 by Wendy (Dan Rose), 1957 Wayne (Sherry), 1958 David (Cindy), 1959 Joyce (Eldon Bjerke), and finally 1963 Dean.
They spent many happy years on this farm before moving the dairy operation to Grovedale, AB, in 1976. Betty loved the farm, animals and her family. She spent many hours volunteering over the years for United Church Women at Clairmont United Church, Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54, of which she was a lifetime member, and various groups her children were involved in (4-H, youth group & sports). Betty had various jobs through the years; she was an avid knitter and Yahtzee player. She enjoyed nothing more than getting everybody together for a meal. She would definitely say her proudest achievement was her family.
Betty married Kurt Johannsen on August 5, 1995, to add to her family, children: Helmut (Theresa) Johannsen, Inge Cameron and Cheryl Johannsen; as well as four more grandchildren.
The family would add 15 grandchildren: Jordon (Lori) Bombier, Mitchel (Tamara) Bombier and Kelsey (Catherine) Bombier; Kristy (Will Penney), Jared and Brian Rose; Jodie (Don Johnson); Sandi (Devin Metituk), Jeff (Amy) Drysdale, and Stephanie (Brad Rideout) Drysdale; Tanya (Daryl Leuchter), Kimberly Bain and Leif (Lesley) Bjerke; Kyle Drysdale and Samantha (Rob Shore).
Also, many great-grandchildren came along: Lukas and Hudson Bombier; Brooklyn and Hadley Bombier; Tory and Sydney Johnson; Mason and Peyton Drysdale; Corbin, Jaxon and Brynnlie Metituk; Marshall Limpert; Meredith Leuchter; Brandon, Colton, and Sadie Bain; Brayden Bjerke; Natalia Drysdale; and Broly and Axton Shore.
Also, remembered by the Eady family of Buffalo Lakes, AB; Gerald (Sherry) Eady; Kevin (Erin) Eady, Jay and Brady; Tracy (Ryan Gordey), Spencer and Jack; Dianne (Ray) Laurin, Michael (Lorraine) Laurin, Jessica (Ryan Mathews) and Natasha; Daniell (Joanne) Laurin, Mathew and Leanne; Neil (Melissa) Laurin and Katelyn and Sophia; Brandon and Cassandra Eady. Betty’s life will be celebrated by many nieces, nephews and special family members: Marguerite Drysdale, Marion Leggatt, Meryl Drysdale and Marge Nielsen.
Betty was predeceased by Troy Drysdale, Fred Drysdale, Morris and Margaret Eady, and Roy Eady.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 1:00pm, at the Grovedale Community Hall. Exemption protocols in effect: must wear a mask, as well as present proof of double vaccination, or a negative Covid test.
A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Betty’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.
