1941-2021
Bertha always looked beautiful in red. It was her favourite colour. She also loved red carnations and always had them in view from her bedside during her last months of this life.
Bertha was a mother of seven children and always liked to keep busy. She is fondly known for her sewing talents, making mountains of pierogis, and her ability to make a house sparkle. She was an incredibly hard-worker and was always determined to find ways to “keep herself going.”
Participating in her church brought much joy to her life and gave her a profound sense of community and belonging.
Bertha cared deeply about helping others during hard times and always believed that “everybody deserves a chance in life.” In her 50’s, she went back to school to become a certified home-support worker and spent the remainder of her working days, assisting others when they were at their most vulnerable.
Even though she did not always know how to communicate it, she was wholeheartedly grateful for all of her children, the people in her life, and all the friends she made along the way.
Bertha passed on peacefully at the end of September, but she will remain deep in our hearts always.
With a caring spirit, Bertha gave generously to the BC Children’s Hospital. It was deeply meaningful to her to know that she was helping children and their families when they need it most.
For those who wish to celebrate Bertha and carry on her generosity, you are invited to contribute to a children’s hospital in your region. She would be deeply touched by this act of kindness in her memory.
On online Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday December 4, 2021 via Zoom at 1:00 pm (PST).
