Peacefully following a brief illness at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Sunday, October 10, 2021, Bert van Kessel of Chesterville, age 86. Loving husband of Theresa van Kessel (nee Desormeaux) for over 57 years. Loving father of Gerry van Kessel (Kim Pakeman) of Athens and Michelle “Mimi” van Kessel of Chesterville. Bert will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Ruby, Dylan, Danika, Mackenzie and Abigail. Dear brother of Toni Byvelds (John) of Williamsburg, Anton of Ottawa, Pieta Prokott of Minnesota and Corrie McRae of Chesterville. Dear brother-in-law of Pauline van Kessel, Carol van Kessel of Whitby, Edna Brison (Dennis), Irene Van Delst (Cory), Andre Desormeaux and Georgette Carriere (Pierre). He was predeceased by his sisters Anna Jacobs (Harry) and Grace Centen (Arnold), his brothers Martin and Peter, his sister-in-law Cisca van Kessel and his brothers-in-law Michael Prokott, Dewey McRae, Gerald Desormeaux and Richard Desormeaux. He is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Funeral Arrangements
Due to Covid restrictions a private family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Presentation Roman Catholic Church in Chesterville. Interment of cremated remains will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Chesterville. Donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute, the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
