Obituary
Graaskamp, Bernard “Ben” Johan – It is with deep sadness we announce that our husband, father, Opa, and brother passed away with his family at his side at V.O.N. Sakura House, Woodstock on Sunday, June 6, 2021 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of Anne Graaskamp (the girl in the yellow dress). Loving father of Dyann Birtch (Robert), Joan Gloin (Robert), Jim Graaskamp (Rita), and Deborah Jackson (Brian). Cherished Opa of Josh (Laya), Matthew (Leena), Nathan (Paula), Lesley (Dave), Nikki (Jeremy), Jeremy (Lynne), Johanna (Ryan), Jennica (Matt), Jessica and Liam and 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the loves of his life. Survived by sisters Gerda, Johanna, Mientje and sister-in-law Mary.
Ben wrote an autobiography at the age of 90 that detailed his journey from his childhood in Holland during WWII, through his immigration to Canada and extensive career in farming. He had a happy retirement for more than 30 years spending half the time in sunny Florida with his darling wife, Anne, where he embarked on his second career as a handyman.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to nurses Robert and Daniel and Dr. Grayson of Oxford Palliative Care, all the hardworking PSWs of Care Partners, and the caring staff of Sakura House.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to V.O.N. Sakura House, Canadian Cancer Society, or Emmanuel Reformed Church and may be arranged through the Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004).
