Obituary
Becky passed away peacefully at Kelowna’s Glenmore Lodge after battling dementia the past three years. She was one month shy of her 90th birthday.
She is survived by her loving daughter-in-law Pam Wilson, seven grandchildren: Narda (Greg) Snow, Tracy Wilson, Lindsay Wilson (Jeff), Sarah Wilson, Scott (Bree) Wilson, Terrence Mykytiw, Tia-Toni Wilson (Adam), seventeen great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is also survived by siblings Earl (Pat) Larson; Karin (Perry) Jesske; Judy (Ray) Liebholz; Carl (Kyle) Larson; Larry (Brenda) Larson.
Becky was pre-deceased by her husband Bill Wilson, her common-law husband Gunter Edelhoff, her only three children, Melissa-Lark, Bill Jr. and Barbara, as well as ten brothers and sisters.
Becky was born in Winfield, Alberta and came from a family of 16 children. She moved with her parents to Prince George, British Columbia at an early age. She later lived with an aunt in Port Coquitlam where she finished her high school by correspondence. It was there that she met Bill who worked for a rock quarry in the Mission area. They were married December 8, 1949. Shortly after, they moved to Edmonton where they started a taxi cab company. In 1962 they relocated to Kelowna after Becky landed a job as a switchboard operator at Kelowna City Hall.
Becky and Bill eventually started “Dic-Wil Industries” manufacturing boat trailers in West Kelowna. They later started the “Winch, Bumper and Hitch Shop” in Kelowna. Becky looked after the bookkeeping for both companies and also was involved in wiring the trailers at the Hitch Shop.
Becky and Bill were long time members of the Elks Club where Becky became a life member of the Royal Purple Lodge reaching the title of Exalted Ruler District Deputy. They were also members of the Kelowna Antique Car Club.
One of Becky’s favorite things to do was old-time dancing. Becky and Bill were good enough to have auditioned for “Dancing with the Stars”. Becky also loved to volunteer, sew, read and, most of all, travel. Uma, Arizona was a favored, winter location where Becky and Bill owned a 5th wheel trailer in a gated community. Everyday was filled with visiting friends, dancing and happy hours! Sadly, Bill passed away in 1994 but Becky continued to visit Arizona for many years afterward.
In 1998, Becky met Gunter while volunteering together at an Elk’s function. They became instant friends and soon a couple. Becky and Gunter enjoyed their life of volunteering, dancing, traveling with their motorhome and running their B&B on Lakeshore Road in Kelowna. On a warm day, you could spot Becky and Gunter riding their red, electric scooter around Kelowna getting their groceries and doing their errands. Becky and Gunter enjoyed over 20 years together. Gunter passed away in December 2019.
Becky had a true zest for life. She lived it to the fullest and touched every heart she met. Her warmth and friendly welcoming smile will forever be missed.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Staff at Glenmore Lodge who were so kind and caring for Becky over the past three years. A celebration of Becky’s life will be held in the Spring of 2022.
