Beatrice’s Obituary
Cameron, Beatrice Marie (Banks) – 87, of Shag Harbour passed away Nov. 22, 2021, at the home of her daughter and son in law, Valerie and Maurice Shand of Shag Harbour. Born August 6, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Reginald and Dena (Nickerson) Banks.
Beatrice was an Avon representative for many years and was known to many folk because of this occupation. Her customers often used her as a “sounding board” as they shared with her their daily cares and concerns. They found her to be a receptive listener and she was often able to encourage them in their daily lives…never too busy to spend those few extra minutes to help and encourage someone along their way. In her younger years she worked at the herring filet plant in Shag Harbour…all while being a busy wife and mother. Beatrice was a beautiful seamstress and could look at a pattern and make an almost identical copy with her patterns and machine. Her children were proud to wear the creations that she turned out for them. She loved to travel with her cousin and travelling companion, Shirlene Atwood . ( two trips to Europe were included in her travels)
Beatrice is survived by daughter Christine (Philip) Shand, Valerie (Maurice) Shand, Shag Harbour, son Tony (Wendy) Cameron, Hammonds Plains, and sister Isabel Kendrick, Shag Harbour. Beatrice was the proud Nannie or Nan to Jason Shand, Christy Conrad, Adam Shand, Megan Hatt, Stephen Shand, Brandon Cameron, and Lauren Cameron…and her great grandchildren Keigan, Brady, Drew, Katie, Matt, Ben, Reid, Selena, Cassia, Tyberius, Fiona, Jaxon, Dawson, Sarah Joy, Harper and Harlow. Beatrice was predeceased by a baby son, Steven Lewis and her two sisters, Annette Newell and Hazel Smith. There will be a visitation at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington on Wednesday, Nov 24 from 7-9 in the evening for any vaccinated family & friends.
The memorial service will follow on Thursday, Nov 25 at the Guiding Light Baptist Church, Shag Harbour (due to COVID restrictions, the service is by invitation only.) Pastor Don Scheel officiating. Interment will be at the Old Farm Cemetery, Shag Harbour. Memorial donations may be made to the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund. The family cannot begin to thank the Home Care workers and VON who so lovingly cared for our dear mom.
